i too am devasted by the loss of the Over cutting. i went on a BC trip about a year ago before the misguided bus work started.
i took these pics that day.
on subsequent trips i photographed many species including Marbled White & Heath Fritillary ( although that was probably released from captivity ). i also saw a latticed heath moth & thought it was a butterfly !!

Hi fellow Cantabridgians,
Now the misguided bus route is there, are we still able to visit the Over 'site'. I realise that officially the answer is no, but it always an unofficial right of way I think. Will I see you there when the sun comes out?
Maybe we should all visit wearing a black suit and tie?

....... if I can go there without harming anyone else or compromising their rights or property in any way, I feel quite justified, particularly since, as you state, disused railways often become de-facto public places.
In fact, I cover a lot of ground on my mountain-bike on the by-ways and tracks and paths around Cambridge. It is not always on official public rights of way, but when I err, it is mostly simply to link between official rights of way to avoid roads as much as possible! I hope to sneak a look at Over myself very soon too...I wonder if the promised cycle-path along the route is ready yet...?

Great excitement for me today - I saw my first ever Grizzled Skipper

Like Neil, I went to Mill Hill, near Shoreham, West Sussex and did not expect to see much as the weather was fairly sunny but with a brisk wind. The steep walk down to the lower slopes was certainly worth it - so glad I took a day off work!

Hi Polly,
I'm glad you found them today. They may be small, they may not be colourful, but they have bags of personality and when fresh, a subtle beauty. One or two Dingy Skipper also now on the wing there.

You don't happen to have siblings called Felicity and Miles do you? That would complete the coincidence.

I do have a cat called Felis catus, though he is officially registered as 'Kitten Cat' on his passport. My dog, whom I got from a refuge, came with the name 'Asha'. As a Sanskritist, I was very pleased with this - it means 'hope'. But no - I don't have a Miles. Sorry!
