Small Tortoiseshell unfurling proboscis.

Demonstrating that the proboscis is actually made of two half pipes, and is not actually a tube at all.

Taken back in July 2006 at Stockbridge Down. Not the best pic but I haven't anything else.

Corgi I think!!
Until I can locate my dog-eared copy of The Observers Book of British Dog Turds I shall have to bow to your superior knowledge.
It does look a little labradorish to me though?

Not my place to judge, obviously, but having seen that pic of the dragonfly, I shan't be bothering to enter anything in this competition!! OUTSTANDING!!

55bloke,
It's the taking part that is fun. If you get a vote, then that's a bonus. Go on, have a go.

yes 55bloke, I have not got any votes so far in any month, just all in the taking part. You don't know till you try, right?

I agree with Dave, 55 bloke, it's worth a try. I've been both surprised and not at some of the competition winners... everybody likes something different; maybe they'll like your pic more! Give it a try

Fair comment, can't argue with any of that, it's just that that particular pic, and a couple of others, are ASTONISHING!! I'd be intrigued to know the stories behind them. The where, when and how- was it the result of pure chance, or the result of dedicated research and planning.

Ok, suitably encouraged, I had a look through my pics and had 2 or 3 to choose from. To go for the best quality image, or the most unusual subject? Decided on the latter, so here is a fairly poor image of a pair of Small Heaths- courting flight, or territorial dispute? Either way, it's just about the only chance you'll ever get to photograph these little critters with their wings open- unless someone has evidence to the contrary?
