Thanks for your kind remarks Denise, Bryan & Martin !!
I did indeed have a super holiday in kavos despite not going to any foam parties
I managed to cover quite a lot of ground on foot & local bus ( very efficient & reasonably priced ).
Fortunately Corfu has been spared the fires which have devasted so much of the mainland forest & wildlife
I was wondering if

is a skipper or a moth... any ideas ?

Charles,
I'm sure Guy will be along soon to make me look like a fool, but I'd say that was a Grizzled Skipper - Pyrgus malvae.
Martin.

I think it might be Sandy Grizzled Skipper (Pyrgus cinarae).
Cheers,
- Pete

I'd looked at that too, Pete, but leant toward malvae because of the submarginal spots. I'm sure you know a lot better than ever will though

Either way...
It's a Skipper, Charles
Martin.

Hi Charles,
Very iunteresting thread as I am considering going to Corfu myslef this year (probably May/June) and would welcome some advice on locations for the swallowtails and pashas especially.
I visited there once before in about 2003 and stayed in Paleocastritsa. Mostly it was beach based with the g/f but we did do a couple of drives up into the mountains (On roads our Fiat Uno hire car was definitely not designed for but it survived!) and some a few butterflies. Scarce swallowtails, painted ladies and southern white admirals werespecies I remember seeing a few of, but it was before I had a big interest in both them and photography. There was also an abundance of other insect life up in the mountains.
This next visit is planned as a dedicated butterfly trip on my own.

For some reason, I've only just come across this thread, even though it takes my name in vain. I don't think the skipper is
Pyrgus, though I'd rather see the underside to be confident. I would go for a rather worn female sage skipper...

Tim Cowles and Matt Rowlings both agree with sage skipper, so I'm pretty confident in saying you can tick that one off on your life list!!
