I've been quite interested in your posts Butterfly Boy. How long have you been interested in butterflies and what sparked that interest? Do you have many butterfly species in your area?

a few years ago now, because when i was 2 or 3 I went to llandudno we saw a butterfly and we wanted to identify it so we bought a butterfly sheet and since then we would Identify them if we saw them, but my mum like photography, so i think four years ago now I used her cannon G10 to photograph stuff, that started in winter when i photographed a blue Tit (bird) and then I started to photograph nature when i was 7 or 8, at this point i still had a the sheet and over a few months I decided to learn every UK butterfly species of by hart (which I can now) that took about two months and because of that I decided to photograph butterflies (at that point I did not travel to see them) but now I travel around to see them (I don't go too far though) so every year I'm seeing new species.

I have a few species around for example;
meadow brown
common blue
large skipper
small sipper
essex skipper (I've not seen one yet)
Brimstone
Holly blue (I have them In my garden)
ringlet
small heath
small copper
peacock
small tortoise shell
painted lady
red admiral
and occasionally a few others too.

I am 12 now if you are wondering

What is the right place to see a Chalkhill Blue Butterfly Boy? I see that you are going to look for them. I, too, am trying to look for them but no luck yet. Where will you go first?

Alright Butterflyboy? If you're after a certain species you could try looking it up in the 'Sites' section on here - it let's you select by area or species so it'll give you a head's up for your closest site :D
I had a quick look and if you're based in West Yorkshire the closet site is Copper Hill near Grantham, south of Lincoln. :D
Have a goodun and stay safe

so yesterday I was playing tennis when my dad came rushing to me saying he'd seen 3+ white letter hairstreaks on some thistles so I chased after him to find none.

Later that day I went to get some eggs, I saw a family of yellows hammers and some white throats and possibly a lesser white throat, but later we thought
'well lets check the park again to see if there was a white letter', we checked, nothing, but then a brown butterfly on some hawthorn caught our eyes, sure enough when it landed it was a white letter, so I got my first ever photos of a white letter, although I had seen them twice before, Finally but to top it off there where some purple hairstreaks there too, I will talk about the purples soon in my next post, because I've not edited my images yet.

My first photo of a white letter

my best image of the white letter

my rubbish image of the purple hairstreak I saw there, evidential proof I have seen the purple hairstreak at wellhome

So I checked this morning for a white letter, i saw nothing so I'm going to check again soon ish

So on Saturday I went to Chambers farm, Lincolnshire to try and see some new species of butterfly I was hoping to see...
Purple emperor
White admiral
Wood white
Brown hairstreak

I Got talking to Toby L and he gave me a quick guide to the place and where to see stuff like the black hairstreak, and for Butterfly conservation he was making a survey on all the the butterflies we saw, after tens of purple hairstreaks, one finally landed, near, head height so I got a photo
Image
Image
as you can see, I cropped them ALOT.

then after 13 or so purple emperors one landed on the floor
but as soon as I got close enough a rude couple came and made it fly off with out even thinking, luckily I snapped a few shots before it flew
Image

just before I was able to photo the same one i think

Image

and later I saw a female swf but got distracted by an emerald damselfly

Nice shots, especially the Purple Emperor on the ground :) It's a shame that people are so unthinking, they could have waited until you got your shots

Thanks,
Yes, bit annoying really I think there was better shots of for grabs, but for the time being that will do for me :)
I could hear them approaching so I quickly took about 5 shots before it flew away

First of all your dad scores top marks for 'Dadding' 8) You did well to get them on the second attempt.
Great job with the Emperor 8) It can be frustrating when people put up butterflies, sometimes you can get lucky and they show an interest and so you can get a load of shots but then other times luck doesn't smile on you - you just have to take the rough with the smooth. :?

that's funny I've not come on the forums for such a long time I've been signed out
I've not really been on for a month after my holiday to northumberland where i saw my first graylings :D
Image
i saw 3 graylings but since the weather was cloudy i didn't really see much apart from a few walls and meadow browns
Image
and a dark green fritillary
Image
I saw 2 painted ladies too my only two of the year

since then I've hardly seen any butterflies apart from some meadow browns, i've not even seen a sipper since
I hope next year will be better (and i break up from school earlier so i get to see the northern brown argus)

You did great with those Walls Butterflyboy :D They're a hard species to nail down and to get a mating pair is really good going :D 8) Grayling are one of my favourite species - I love playing hide and seek with them
