As things currently stand, if the hosting provider is unable to fix this, then we have a stark choice between a) sticking with the current setup and the issues we're seeing or b) going back to the unsecure http. In both cases, I'd suggest switching hosting provider when the current web hosting renewal comes around (August 2021).

Of course, if they fix the issue, then I'll put the number of posts per page back to 20.

Thanks for the explanation, Pete.

Well ... the hosting company has failed to find a solution and so I've put my thinking cap on and spent a few hours amending the code that generates thumbnail images ... which now just shows the thumbnail, rather than executing some rather complicated code that is in place in case the forum thumbnail size was to be changed (which it won't ever will!), when all thumbnails would have to be regenerated.

Long story short, a change to a single line of code (and adjusting some permissions) means that all forum pages will now show correctly. I still need to fix the phenology page, but that's a quick fix that I'll do later this evening. The permissions change may become an issue if we get another DDOS attack, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

And so ... normal service has been resumed ... and I've restored the 20 posts per page :)

Now back to butterflies!

Cheers,

Thank you, Pete. When things work, we all take it for granted. When they go wrong, we suddenly realise how much work you do behind the scenes!

Indeed, Guy. It's one thing having set up such a wonderful site, but quite another to maintain and improve it on an almost day to day basis (probably more like hour to hour right now!).
