This week, Doug Neve and myself have been assisting Neil Hulme with scrub clearance
work at Butterfly Conservation's reserve at Park Corner Heath, in East Sussex.
A large area of bracken and saplings have been cleared.
Hopefully the site will soon be more welcoming for this seasons Butterflies.
Today I continued burning the large pile debris from this weeks work, on what was a
most idyllic Winters day, no wind, a clear blue sky with a covering of white from
last nights frost.

Fair play, Trevor, you have put the hard yards in at the worst time of year which proves how committed you are.

With any luck, you'll be able to go back to this site and be rewarded with a superb day during the main flight season. Please keep us updated on this place.

I love nice crisp frosty mornings like that :D

Well done Trevor, here's to you enjoying the fruits of your labour in the coming season.

Cheers,

Neil.

Many thanks Wurzel, David and Neil,

I have been a volunteer on a regular basis since the 1970's, but this was my first time
for Butterfly conservation. Previously I was involved with rebuilding old, historic
railway carriages. But let Butterflies into your life, and they take over !.
There is still a great deal to do at Park Corner, and I hope to do more.

Happy new year,
Trevor.

Cheers Wurzel, considering his size and weight, an attempt at tree climbing
was not one of his better ideas this morning. A clumsy effort.

Incidentally the tree he has climbed is a Chinese Elm, White Letter Hairstreaks one day ?.

Doug Neve and myself returned to Park Corner Heath yesterday to continue burning brash
left over from Neil Hulme's last clearance session. With the temperature at 0c we were glad
of the fire.
However we did not achieve as much as we would have liked in the time available.

Hi Trevor,
Those are lovely pictures of the butterflies you have seen in 2016. Good effort with the scrub clearance, too.

Many thanks, Nick. I am very fortunate to have so many species within easy travelling distance.
However, the Northern Brown Argus, which you have captured to perfection, is not a species
I will get to see easily. Perhaps one day !.
Most of the species I have yet to see are either found in the North, or over the Border.

I thought I might share this Tiger Moth image. It was found during one of our lunch stops
on our tour of the Cevennes, hiding in the overhang of a stone wall.
It was also the only Moth of any consequence that was seen all week.

Hope you enjoy,
Trevor.

SOME FANTASTIC VIDEOS TO VIEW.

Go to species specific forum, find Camberwell Beauty where Vince Massimo
has posted a link. There is a whole series of Butterfly life cycle films.
Of particular interest, Marsh Fritillary, Brown Hairsrtreak, Large Tortoiseshell.
Videos by FILMING VAR WILD.

Turn off the TV and enjoy !.
