Hi Goldie, Grizzlies are one of the easier species round my way. So sorry you missed out previously. It will be all the sweeter when you find one.

The weather wasn't quite as bad today as a couple of days ago and all I could find was one Small Heath! You did amazingly well to both find and photograph that selection of species Katrina.

Thank you Pauline, always a bit of luck involved but there are some sheltered areas.

With the weather threatening more showers this afternoon I went back to Kithurst. I saw John there who showed me a roosting Grizzlie. It was a pleasure to meet Lisa who called me over to see a Duchess she had found. Also seen were a Common Blue, Brown Argus and a Dingy Skipper.

just melting away. Glad you had some luck today, I was back home before 10
as the cloud ,wind and rain arrived as I did!.

Yes, Katrina, I keep that in mind myself.

I recall Bill (RIP) once persuading me to travel to the M40 Compensation Area at the back of Bernwood Forest for Black Hairstreak (in the days when it wasn't fenced off).

I thought he was out of his mind as it was forecast dull and cloudy with occasional rain all day. In spite of that, we ended up seeing a dozen or so Hairstreaks and ever since then I have recalled this episode on many occasions when I have been in two minds as to whether I should 'venture out'.

If you do, you are never going to see huge numbers, but the compensation is that those you DO find will likely be posing in much the same benign way as the Holly Blue, Brown Argus and Grizzled Skipper were for you (and, latterly, the Duchess, Common Blue and Dingy).

You are right David - easier to photograph if you find them and most of them with the exception of the Grizzlies looked really fresh.

A late afternoon early evening to Park Corner Heath / Rowland Wood in the sun for me today. I saw 3 Small PBFs and some PBFs. I was lucky enough to find one roosting.
Other butterflies seen were a single Peacock, some Speckled Woods, Small Heaths, Dingy skippers and a Grizzled Skipper.

You've trumped me there Katrina! I've never seen a pair before. Lovely SPBF too - one I shall probably miss this year.

Very nice SPBF, Katrina! You did well to find them: I spent three sunny hours from about 0845 there this morning and saw not one fritillary of either species. I hope a few more make an appearance.

Plenty of Adonis and Common Blue on a quick trip to Anchor Bottom tonight. I found one particularly beautifully marked female but it was unfortunately hard to photograph as it was swaying in the breeze and there were lots of shadows . Below is my best effort.
