I have seen Wall Lizards (P.muralis) all along the Dorset coast from Purbeck to Portland and there are in several other populations in the south of England. A useful site guide/population summary can be found here http://link.springer.com/article/10.100 ... 012-0353-3

Ventnor IS the only viable Isle of Wight population, and is of the green backed form which is rare elsewhere, so maybe that is what you meant :) Great shots of the butterflies too, my only species left on the UK Breeding list so very jealous!!

Some of the Brimstone larvae in my back garden are clinging on in spite of the wind and the rain :)

One larva had a visitor on the same leaf - does anyone recognise it?

Thanks for looking, bugboy - you could be right because I thought it was alive but after having another look the other 'dark thing' was actually on another leaf

Thanks also to you, Vince and for including a photo - I initially thought it was the old skin so my first hunch may well be correct :)

Yes now I'm at home on my computer (as opposed at work on my phone) that does indeed look more like a shed skin rather than a Hoverfly larvae
