John Needham (a new contributor) lives in the Pyrenees in France and has written about the variations in Purple Emperor and Lesser Purple Emperor that he has observed in his locality. He also writes about the Autumn Ringlet, another speciality of the area.

Adam Gor has written about the week he spent in Switzerland in July staying with Gyorgy Liptovzsky. They visited sites in Bern and Valais, mainly in the high mountains - new sites to me, so I hope to visit some of them in the future.

Mountain butterflies included Damon Blue, Dusky Meadow Brown and Niobe Fritillary. Higher up they discovered rarer butterflies such as Silvery Argus, Small Apollo and Sudeten Ringlet.

David Moore has written about the early spring butterflies to be found in North East Greece.

There are a number of species not found later in the year.

The highlight is probably the False Apollo, but there are both Southern and Eastern Festoons to see as well.

Other rare and unusual species include Dalmatian Ringlet, Gruner's Orange Tip, Eastern Greenish Black-tip, Eastern Wood White, Eastern Dappled White and Grecian Copper.

This will be very interesting! False Apollo is a sensational butterfly and there are many others of great interest from this part of Europe. Looking forward to David's account.

False Apollo is a biggee, Pete, and the area is an excellent one for an array of unusual species.

I believe Mr Eeles will be experiencing it for himself in a few months time. He's in for a treat!

Jim Asher has written about his holiday excursion that he organises to Herzegovina.

The scenery is beautiful with flowery meadows and gentle mountains.

There are a good number of species to see, up to 100, with eastern specialities such as Balkan Marbled White, Balkan Heath and Hungarian Glider.

More common species include Cardinal, Clouded Apollo and Heath Fritillary.

I very much look forward to reading Jim's article. Bosnia/Herzogivina is a much under-explored country with, I suspect, some interesting discoveries to be found.

Me too, Paul. That part of Europe is often overlooked but there are some key species to be found there.

Dan Danahar has contributed an article and continued his description of the butterflies of Corfu.

His article covers the butterfly year in Corfu. He has managed to mention almost 50 species of the 75 that occur in Corfu.

A very useful guide as to the best months in which to see butterflies.

Excellent. Only a month or so to wait for the issue, I believe?

Yes David, hopefully publication should be in mid-March.

Mario Langourov has written an article about the 'Southern Green Belt' - this is really Northern Greece, Northern Macedonia and Bulgaria.

He has sent me double the number of photos required for the article - so I hope to use some of them in later magazines.

Here are some of the ones that missed the cut!

The area covers rarely found butterflies such as Dil's, Grey Asian and Macedonian Graylings, the False Apollo, Grecian Copper, the Southern and Eastern Festoons and the Southern Swallowtail.

Mario Langourov has a new book out now - Bulgarian Butterflies - a photographic field guide. It is available electronically. If you enter Mario Langourov and Butterflies of Bulgaria in the search engine you should get the link to the National Museum of Natural History (Bulgaria) - at the bottom of the descriptive page there is a link to the electronic version.

I have received a second proof of the magazine now and asked my printer to go ahead with printing.

Hopefully copies will be ready next week. There seems to have been more things to correct this time for some unknown reason - possibly due to copying from one format to another.

I attach the cover and some sample pages.

The magazine is as wide ranging as ever, with an emphasis on Greece this time - both Mario Langourov and David Moore covering the early butterflies in Greece, along with Dan Danahar covering the Corfu butterfly year.

Thanks for the update, Jason. Given the lack of butterflies here at the moment, it will be even more satisfying than normal to see a few in the magazine.

Hello Paul - regarding purchasing the magazine.

The best way to buy the magazine (for me financially) is to buy direct from me - £9.00 including postage, send me a cheque or credit my bank account.

My details and all my books, DVDs and magazines are on my website - www.jasonsargerson.uk

I also send copies to Pemberley Books and NHBS - of course they take a substantial cut for selling them - but here you can use your debit card or credit card or paypal etc.

I list the magazine on Amazon - they also take a substantial cut - but you can use debit cards etc.
