Marsh Fritillary Llyn Peninsula

Post by Chris Speke »

Last week visited Cors Erddreiniog on Anglesey and observed one individual , the temperature at mid-morning was 12 centigrade. However, more than 20 Wall Butterfly observed.

Today, 10th June visited a bog area near the hamlet of Pant Glas which is on the A487 10miles south of Caernarvon. The bog is sedge and tussock grass covering about 10 acres. Having struggled across it for 40 minutes I came across an area of sheltered bog in which there was a colony of Marsh fritillary. Saw approx 20 individuals over a 20 minute period of observation. It was a very localised colony and did not extend into more exposed areas of he bog. Temperature today was 19 centigrade.
