Re: Katrina
I've just been catching up with your diary Katrina, WOW what a year you've had. You've taken some really terrific photos. It was great to see you at Steyning again this year, hopefully I'll see you and a few of the regulars there again next year. It's often very busy but also great fun.
Best Wishes

Godwits Galore
Today I finally made it to a work party at Heyshott. The weather was good and there was even a bit of warmth in the sunshine. There is something about Heyshott that is always peaceful - even with the chainsaws.
I then went on to Pulborough Brooks and saw a large flock of Black-tailed godwits. Someone I met said they had stopped counting at 200. I also saw one butterfly flying in the distance which I think was a Red Admiral.

Ragged Red Admiral
A short trip to Aldrington canal today and I found a Red Admiral.

Re: Katrina
Looks more like half a Red Admiral to me.
Fair play to it still being on the wing in late November in THAT condition.

Re: Katrina
Yesterday I went with my mother and sister to Baron's Haugh. The highlight was seeing an otter which my sister spotted. It was so quick I only managed a photo of its tail.

Re: Katrina
I think they are Whooper swans. I looked online and the shaped the yellow on the beaks looks more like Whooper than Bewick's. The Barons Haugh website says 16 species of butterflies have been seen there including "the locally abundant orange-tip" so I might come back in Spring / summer.

Re: Katrina
I'd say those are Whoopers - it's a good place to see them. I expect they've come from Iceland.
As it happens there's one very close to my home at the moment, in Radley Village

Re: Katrina
Yesterday I went out for my first proper butterflying of the year and saw some orange-tips, a green-veined white and some speckled woods.

Re: Katrina
HI Katrina,
Well done with the Orange Tips , a species that's giving me a hard time this season.
I've seen a few on the wing but that's all.
Best wishes,
TREVOR.

Heyshott
Today I went to Heyshott to see my first Dukes of the year and then stopped off at Mill Hill on the way back for roosting butterflies.

Kithurst
This afternoon I went to Kithurst Hill in rather grey and windy weather. I found only one dingy skipper.

Katrina,
Nice photos of the Dingys.
Just goes to show that you don't always need calm & Sunny conditions to see something. Fortune favours the brave

Re: Katrina
Hi Katrina, I agree with Kev on all accounts. Great roosting Dingies and I'm sooo envious of your Otter (even if it was just a tail!)
