Another Shield bug for ID please.

Post by LancsRover »

I found this guy/girl in my garden(Lancashire) on the 19th October, after I had been hacking back the conifers. I found 2 or 3 later in the week, never seen these anywhere in England before or the continent for that matter.
Are they common? ID please.

It's a Juniper Shieldbug Cyphostethus tristriatus. They used to be confined to wild Junipers, but have latterly discovered that they can live on garden junipers and Lawson Cypress, and so have greatly extended their range. They are quite common in the south and midlands at least.
