It's better to be born lucky....
The second head of Holly berries that I looked at today revealed this little beauty...

I understand from Thomas/Lewington that it's usually Spring brood - Holly, and Summer brood - Ivy. The females apparently prefer heads with young berries, neither in full sun, nor full shade. I picked a couple of half and half bits and just got lucky.

Must admit I never pay attention to holly in May; I generally concentrate my efforts on ivy in autumn (and even then I still return a blank).
