Striped hawkmoth (Hyles livornica)

Post by Roger Gibbons »

I was lucky enough to get a visit from this beautiful hawkmoth in southern France this summer. It was a speculative photo, given that it was 11.00 pm and quite dark, but I was pleasantly surprised at the result using flash and an exposure of 1/250 sec.

It came back a few days later but a bat swooped through the darkness and the moth was gone, presumably as lunch for the bat.

I'm green with envy, I have a thing about hawkmoths, and that is a real beauty, well captured.

Ditto!! Hawkmoths are awesome creatures, and those pics make me green with envy! Spent HOURS trying to get a decent shot of Hummimbird Hawks on Crete in the summer, and on Jersey last year, but got nothing anywhere near as good as those.

Same here, I tried getting decent shots of Hummingbird Hawk-moths and Narrow Borderd Bee Hawks too, but not near as good as that shot, well done!
