User Control Panel problems

Post by Trik »

In Board Preferences, I have selected Yes to Hide my online status, and when I login I also check Hide, but I am still shown as being online. Also, if I subscribe to a topic I leave "Notify me when a reply is posted" checked, but I do not get an email. How can I get these preferences to stick, please?

Hi Trik,

The first is a long-standing issue that I've not gotten around to fixing. The second is a new one on me but I'll take a look.

My PC is dead at the mo, but will take a look once it's fixed.

Cheers,

- Pete

The notifications do sometimes get lost in the post - mine sometimes arrive a day or more late.

If you are not getting any at all, do check spam - when I reinstalled Windows 7 recently all the notifications went into spam.

I don`t have automatic spam folder, as such, as I`m still using Outlook Express and have to create message rules to send incoming mail to a particular folder. As I`ve not received any emails from UK Butterflies, no such rule has been created; also, my Block Senders list is empty. If email notifications are sent to the address I gave when I registered, they should arrive OK, but I have to check if there are any replies by logging into the forums. I will try changing my email address in User Control Panel and see if that makes it work and report back. Could someone please reply to this post so that I can test it?

Thanks
Trik

Here's a reply, so you can test it!

As an additional note, some e-mail servers remove spam at source, before it gets anywhere near your computer. Mine did that for a while and I had no idea why I never got expected e-mails from British Airways, universities and several other institutions. When I signed on with my gmail account, all these e-mails came through, so I contacted my own host and discovered their stupid 'at source' spam filter, for which it turned out I was paying CHF 5 a month! So if you do create a new e-mail address, use gmail - that is in my opinion far and away the best provider and plays no nasty tricks on you.

It works! All I did was re-enter the same email address as before, confirmed it by entering again, plus password and clicked Submit. Thanks for testing it for me, Padfield.
