Subspecies / forms

Post by Pete Eeles »

Hi all. I don't suppose many would notice, so thought I'd point out that the second major pass at sorting out all of the descriptions of subspecies and forms is now complete. This has been a mammoth exercise requiring at least 6 separate trips to the library at Oxford University Museum of Natural History - and my thanks to the team there for putting up with me! I must have hunted down well over 100 references that aren't available online, and the references list is now pretty big (see http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/references.php) as a result.

The net result is that UKB now has extensive and accurate descriptions of all subspecies and forms and, in particular, provides a consolidated perspective on the distributions (e.g. Common Blue ssp. mariscolore: http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/species. ... ies=icarus).

My thanks to Mark Colvin for the inspiration to complete this project, and to Guy for completing the most recent set of translations.

Cheers,

- Pete

Good stuff, Pete, and many thanks for all your hard work (I know you enjoy it!)

You have made this site the indispensable 'one-stop shop' for butterfly information.

To Pete and everybody on UKB, thanks for a great website, there is so much info. advise and encouragement that it has been brilliant since I joined earlier this year, I met Bill(WILLROW) in Haugh Wood, Hereford on 16th May 2013, we were looking for Wood Whites and we had lunch together on a bench at the bottom of the woods and he told me all about this great website and here I am, thanks to Bill, a nice guy :)
