Great shots Tony!

"The egg is laid singly either on the foodplant, or on surrounding vegetation or debris. Eggs are often laid close to the ground, where it is believed the higher temperature favours development. This species overwinters in this stage, the larva being fully-developed inside the egg.".

Cheers,

Thanks, Guys,

The eggs were laid on heather and were all very close to the ground. They were seriously tricky to find - usually well down the stem of a small, low growing plant, and usually well tucked in. Lucy was using a large hand lens to search! I also found one parasitised egg shell with a large hole in the side. I've put a slightly better shot in the Species Specific Album. Next year, I'll try to find a laying female. A fresh egg without the accumulated detritus would be a better subject.
