Green Hairstreak aberration?

[Butterflysaurus rex]

Way back on the 24/04/2011 I came across this unusual looking Green Hairstreak. At first I thought that it's green scales had been worn away but on closer inspection I no longer think that's the case. The worn GHS's I normally see don't wear off their green scales this evenly, there still appears to be a good coverage of scales but in this lovely golden colour!

Any advice as to what's going on here would be most appreciated, is this an aberration?

You're almost certainly right. That's a very precious aberrant and I doubt if even the mighty Sussex Kipper could find one in a given year!

We should never underestimate the the mighty Kipper, he's even seen me and I'm about as aberrant as they come

Seriously though I was very lucky to have seen it, in person it had a really lovely golden colour to it, I tried to get clean shot of it but it wouldn't take it's head out of that flower When it did move it shot over a Hawthorn bush out of reach.

I get the impression that you spend a fair amount of time in the 'field'.

I try to get out as much as I can, normally about 3 days a week or even more if at all possible. I'm lucky enough to live in a great county for Butterflies (Sussex) but I still have to travel a fair bit for things like Duke of Burgundy or Purple Emperor.
