Anyone know about stick insects?

Post by DaveBlom »

I'm fairly sure there aren't any natural residents in the UK but saw these on Marram grass heads on holiday. Are they likely to survive the winter?

Stick Insects DO occur in the UK, though not of natural origin. They have persisted for many years on the Isles of Scilly (at least 3 species) and parts of Cornwall. But the beasts in your pic aren't sticks! They are Mirid bugs, I'm not sure which species (there are many!) but have a look at this link and see what you think http://www.britishbugs.org.uk/gallery/h ... ridae.html

Cheers,

Gibster.

Thanks for that, have had a look at that page. Didn't realise there were so many, definitely looks like one of the Miridius quadrivirgatus type.

Cheers
