Hi have been searching to identify this butterfly for hours but no joy can anyone help, it was in the back garden on the south coast.

Hi Mark thanks for that info I rather thought it could be a moth all though I did a search on moths as well and came up blank but thanks to you my intrigue has been satisfied.
