Sites Near Warminster

Post by andy brown »

Morning all,

I am of to Warminster on Business the next couple of days and was wondering if there is a site nearby in the evening worth visiting probably wont get there until 6pm ish, Shipton Bellinger is a bit far. Cotley Hill looks a reasonable distance, I notice there are supposed to Adonis Blues there, can anyone tell me if they are out yet for the second brood and where to access the site.

Many Thanks

Andy

Cley Hill, along the A362 towards Frome, should have Adonis Blues out at the moment. There was Silver-spotted Skipper reported there last year, though I have my doubts as it is a long way from any other sites of this species.

White Sheet Hill, just off the B3092 Frome/Mere road, has Adonis Blue and other chalk downland species.

It ought to be possible to find Adonis and Chalkhill Blues in a few places along the chalk ridge to the east of Warminster, and further along the ridge towards Westbury.
