Swallowtail in E. Sussex.

Im not huge on butterflies but im trying to learn more. However i was sitting in a churchyard fairly close to Eastbourne yesterday and this little beauty fluttered in. ironically, i'd only just bought a decent DSLR camera the day before but i didn't take it with me. So managed to get this rather blurry shot on my £20 phone !!!.

Had to join the forum to share it with you, i have used this site for identification many times.

Now you've dipped your toe and got hooked by our native butterflies, I'm sure your interest will increase. Thank you. Didn't quite realise the signifigance of the sighting. Ive now reported it to the Sussex branch of the butterfly conservation society.

That aside, the place was also full of large whites, meadow browns, peacocks, red admirals and a few other non identified species....along with quite a few emperor dragonflies !!!!!

More warm weather on its way next week

I was unfortunately unable to get out yesterday evening to see the Swallowtail following a call from Michael Blencowe. However, with the weather being so wet I decided it was worth a go to today as it was still likely to be in the same spot with the poor weather. I'm very glad I did attempt it as the butterfly was still there and as the weather improved slowly it also opened its wings. My thanks to Michael for letting me know about it and for David Bradford for the original find.
