Re: Carcassonne 2013
Yesterday i went up the opposite side of the valley to the campsite... very peaceful & rural; all the way up were Satyrs as in the pics. No fritillaries apart from one or two SWFs. Marbled whites outnumbered other whites including Large, Small & Wood & Cleopatras. At the top there was a small wildflower meadow packed with butterflies. Large, Small & Silver spotted Skippers as well as the grizzled in the pic.
A delightful afternoon.

Re: Carcassonne 2013
I would say that the pictures are visible only to members of the "Group". I have no idea what group that would be. There is an icon to join, but I'm not on Flickr, so didn't try.

I just signed on using my Google ID - as JKT says, you have to join the group to see the pictures.
Lovely pictures of a good selection of species! The hairstreak is false ilex.

Thanks Guy & Reverdin !!
I am not sure why you have to join the group... i specified that non-members could see the pool pics
i will try to find a more user-friendly solution

Re: Carcassonne 2013
this holiday i have been following the pattern:
one day exploring / taking butterfly pics
next day in Carcassonne posting pics / having restaurant meal / visiting market etc
this has worked fine apart from days when the weather discourages the papillons from emerging
So far i have seen three new species without being able to photograph them:
i) small butterfly about the size of a Large Blue but much deeper blue colour with white "frill" around trailing edges of wings
ii) Large butterfly in pine forest about size of a Two Tailed Pasha
iii) Large butterfly with coloration similar to Red Admiral and size and flight characteristics of a Great Banded Grayling
having a great time.... hopefully will get pics of the mystery creatures !!

Re: Carcassonne 2013
Went on longest walk so far yesterday... discovered several new wildflower meadows full of butterflies.
Any suggestions for this tiny blue ?
Also i saw a skipper like a Small Skipper but half the size... very plain beige colour

Re: Carcassonne 2013
Went on a fabulous walk this morning starting at Pomas and heading towards Couffoulens. After 4 miles it linked up with a path i used in previous years. Unfortunately there was NO SUN so just a few Walls and Gatekeepers
Will try this walk again when the Soleil has got his Chapeau on
Any ideas about this little Blue butterfly ?
