Lang's Short-tailed Blues

Post by Paulcrook »

:D For anyone who saw (or who can remember seeing as it is a long time ago) my ID question in May regarding blue butterflies on Madeira I thought I would let you know the outcome.

I wasn't sure if a butterfly I had photographed was a Long-tailed Blue (the usual species on the island). A few of you suggested Lang's Short-tailed Blue as the species instead. I have since submitted photos to the website of Madeira Wind Birds who have agreed with this identification. Apparently it is the first recorded sighting of a Lang's in Madeira. Quite pleasing really.

If anyone else goes there it would be interesting to know of any other sightings. I am attaching a picture of one of those I saw.

All the best
Paul Crook

Well done, Paul. The one above is classic Lang's...I see them all the time at my house in Spain.

Martin.
