I'm planning to go looking for Brown Hairstreaks for the first time, probably the weekend of the 9th (unfortunately busy this weekend).
I'm wondering if Noar Hill or Ifield has been better this year. I haven't visited either site before; are the hairstreaks widespread at each site, or are are there particular spots to concentrate on?
Any info or comments much appreciated.

My back garden was a good place for 'em last year.

Right then, all round to Susie's for Brown Hairstreak in late Aug/early Sept.
My coffee is white with none.
Cheers

You're on! Tea and sandwiches and sticky buns.
I took this photo in garden on 27 August last year. For the next two weeks there were Brown Hairstreaks in the garden at around lunchtime everyday, although none of them settle for long enough to enable me to get a decent photo. I have my fingers crossed for the coming season.

I know it's a long while ago but did you see them? I failed for the fourth time at Noar Hill last year.James Blake wrote:I'm planning to go looking for Brown Hairstreaks for the first time, probably the weekend of the 9th (unfortunately busy this weekend).

I only had a cursory glance at a few blackthorn last week but I didn't see any sign of nibbling by brown hairstreak at Noar Hill.
I would have thought that there were plenty of sites closer to Surrey which hold good populations.
