GOOD SITES NEAR WEYMOUTH

I just wondered if anybody can recommend any good sites near Weymouth I shall be in the vicinity next Saturday with the family and hopefully I can fit in some butterfly time Am I likely to find Marsh Fritillary nearby

Hi Paul - the one I know best is Durlson Country park just south of swanage I have seen lulworths skipper, wall and Adonis there in season and if it interests you there are hundreds of Early Spider Orchids in flower there at this time of the year.
A bonus is it s only two minutes out of swanage which is a good family day out , check out the steam railway. Durlston has a very informative visitor centre and lots of other things to see, Tilly Whim Caves, the stone globe and possibly dolphins out to sea - they mount a dolphin watch and the last time I was there an underwater camera.

Cerne Abbas (Giant's Hill) is 20-25 miles due north of Weymouth, and is a splendid butterfly site, including Marsh Fritillary.

Under the "Species" menu (on the home page), there is a "Sites" submenu. Each grid square is then linked.
