Hi all,
I've been spending a good amount of time researching subspecies and forms, and it's become obvious that there's a lot of literature available (too much, in fact!) that needs to be worked through. More to the point, most of it is available on the web. And so I've spent a few days redefining the set of references to make the listing as comprehensive as possible and provide links to the online source. What's more, I've added the option to sort the references by date as shown here:
http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk/referenc ... style=year
As it now states on this page, the hope is that this listing will benefit any visitors wanting to research the British butterflies. I've still got quite a few references to add (mainly after 1900), but hope you enjoy browsing the incredible set of literature that is freely available!
Cheers,
- Pete

Thanks for that, Pete. Excellent resource.
Aside from the entomological aspect, it's a pleasure to read the wonderful prose that was de rigueur prior to 1900.

It would be a shame to fail to include the most comprehensive and up-to-date work on the subject namely http://www.ukbutterflies.co.uk Hiding one's light under a bushel attracts few moths.
