Meadow brown aberration?

Post by eccles »

This meadow brown was snapped today in the local wildlife park nectaring off teazel heads. Is this pale type a known aberration?

Hi eccles,

This looks like the ab. alba. It actually shows better in the various books on aberrations I have, but there are some examples on the Cockayne database at:

Nice one!

I think this chap is more beautiful than the non-aberrant version!

Beautiful photograph, eccles. Surely a contender for the July compo? But for goodness sake, don't take my advice!

Couldn't agree more. On that note, eccles, could you please email me a high-res version for the main species pages (pete@ukbutterflies.co.uk) - assuming you're OK with it being used!

Cheers,

Thanks for comments and info.
Pete, this one is 800x600. If it's good enough, feel free to use it. If not, let me know what resolution you wish. I took three shots in difficult foliage. I didn't want to risk damaging the teazels and it flew off before I could get really close. As a result, this is a crop, about 50%, so I could go up to around double this image size.

Is this an aberration meadow brown? (not very good quality) it has two wite lines on forewings and it does not look like they are from being worn, is it or is this just worn?
