Took advantage of the break from rain and went to Chobham Common this morning on the off chance that the SSB had decided to emerge.Due to the lateness of the season so far i wasnt surprised that none made themselves visible.I did see meadow brown and small heath as well as what i thought was a hawk moth caterpillar(it was very large :D ).Ill give it another couple of weeks and return.

cheers

don't know if you keep an eye on the sightings page Rob but Millerd posted this today, "Lovely fresh Silver-studded Blues out today at Both Thursley Common and Fairmile Common in Surrey, including females at the latter location"

Thanks Chris.I do normally keep an eye out in Sightings but hadnt checked today.
I do recall reading on here somewhere or hearing somewhere that they were out already and thats what prompted my visit but the site doesnt look as promising as it did last year.im sure that they are found in quite a large area, but part of the area where i had found them had been flattened and dug over by machinery. :x
Also despite it being sandy sub soil, the site was still quite damp in many places due to our typical summer weather.
Perhaps ill try the sites that you mentioned.I appreciate your help Chris,

cheers
