Small Copper Flying in November in Cornwall!!

Post by lee3764 »

Visited Par Beach this afternoon in lovely sunshine & blue skies (12oC) 1:00pm - 3:05pm & saw...... 1 Small Copper (very fresh)!!!! Could this be the latest Small Copper sighting this year in Britain? It was certainly full of beans with plenty of energy & flying over several parked cars before settling again! Reckon it was only 24 hours old due to very fresh condition! Cornwall is good for late & early dates for certain species. My latest ever date for a sighting of a Small Copper is 22nd November, 1995 at Carlyon Bay woods near St Austell. Doubt I'll beat that date ever!! 8) Also saw at Par Beach Dunes, 6 Red Admirals and 2 Silver Y moths.
Need to reset the "Flying this week" species section on the main page of this website! Don't forget Cornwall; we often turn up surprises!!
Also needing to add Speckled Wood and Clouded Yellow to that section Pete as a posting by John Foster on Cornwall Butterfly Conservation's website forum from yesterday, 5th November, 2011 in West Cornwall states the following....."Clouded Yellow today in field just behind East end of Kennack Sands. Quite a few Red Admirals around and a Speckled Wood."

:P :P :P :P

Cheers,
Lee Slaughter (Cornwall).
