Can anyone tell me the name of this plant - not the butterfly!

Looks like bugle to me... though many of the flower heads have gone to seed, hence it not appearing quite like the pictures in the books.

And this one seems to be of the same family but much smaller, although I was more interested to see that it had a smiley face on the top, rather than bothering to get an id shot - oh well small things please small minds!

Hi Gwenhwyfar,
It is Self Heal (prunella vulgaris), should keep flowering all the way through to winter. there is also Prunella Grandiflora a larger version, not to sure on the second pic though. However Self Heal is a definate.I think maybe you need some help with this smiley face business....a little disturbing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah sorry about the face thing, but come on, surely you can see it too!!!!!!!!!. :D

Many thanks for the ID, there are several patches of these out in the meadow and the Skippers just can't seem to get enough of it.

Yep, definatley Selfheal, & don't worry mate, I can see the smiley face...its got sun glasses on too... 8)

apologies Gwenhwyfar! I could have swore it was. Self heal seems a bit pinker to me.... but I'll yield to the wiser man.
