My leaf mines video

Post by Dave McCormick »

Here is a video I made about leaf miners from what they are, to how to find them and examples using images taken of leaf mines and videos I have taken myself. Video is in 1080p HD

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIGJI2DYtwQ[/video]

Have a lot of ideas for a lot of more videos in the next few months, will post more I as I do them. Also including field trips to places I got to find wildlife, mothing videos (Moth trapping, sugaring for moths etc...), what wildlife to see that month, how to grow certian wild plants and trees to help wildlife in your garden, also how to help wildlife in your garden. Also current news about wildlife such as situation in Tasmanian forests, habitat protection or destruction, new species being found or rare species being found and anything else to do with nature I can think of.

I am of course going to do butterfly videos whenever I can. All videos of these will be up to 15 minutes long. Also, I'll take requests. If anyone has anything they would like me to talk about to do with nature, I can see if I can do it as well.
Cheers all,

Hi Dave

Just to let you know I think there is a bracket missing from the link to the YouTube video. You will also need to link to the long link on YouTube and not the short one to ensure it plays on UKButts.

I'm looking forward to the HD video.
Cheers Paul

I agree - good stuff, Dave.

Nice touch with the outtakes at the end too!

Hi Dave,

Great work. It's good to see some passion about less explored areas of entomology. I really enjoyed the video and loved the outtakes.

Good hunting.

Kind regards. Mark

Oops, have to check tags in future to make sure videos work. Thanks all. When doing the video, I was searching for leaf mines and it turns out I got the first Irish record of Stigmella incognitella‏ with 3 leaf mines I found on apple (shown in the video), so that is 4 new moth records for Ireland (one for Northern Ireland) I have found this year.

Hehe, thanks, I keep a lot of my screw ups and bloopers and add a few at the end (just to try and add some light to the video as I don't want to appear too serious, just light hearted approach). I had a script I write and try to stick to but with one thing or other, never quite goes to plan. I probably wouldn't make a very good actor, I'd keep forgetting my lines!

Had 6 minutes of bloopers for that one, most you don't see. Once because a car alarm went off and screwed up the shot, another because of a low flying helicopter and then someone blasting loud music in their car as they passed among other things. Think if I do enough videos, I'll do a blooper reel at the end of the first series of videos (planning to do 50 videos for first series but no idea what most will be yet, just some I have ideas for, others will come to me.)
Cheers all,

I know I never listen to a word that you say
I'll breed leaf mines some day
They'll make you jump, make you shout
They will even knock you out
Some folks like water
Some folks like wine
I like the ways of moth leaf mines!
Leaf mines! Hey! Hey!
Leaf mines! Hey! Hey!

Sorry for late reply, Matsukaze, your a real William Shakespeare there! Working on another video about autumn that I should have done by Monday, going out at weekend to film last few clips I need for it. Have some fungi I need to ID first, I'll post them later.
