Froggy Things

Next to the front door this morning was this chap, presumably on his way to find a suitable nook in which to hibernate. He was pretty big for a frog - but then so are the local slugs, so there may be a connection.

Butterflies this morning exclusively Red Admirals and Speckled Woods, but no shortage of either.

Is that not a toad? Whatever it is, he's a monster.

Lovely, isn't he? I wondered about whether he might be a toad, as they are often in the garden, but he isn't warty enough. I think the big dark patch behind his eye is characteristic of the common frog. He was wet, too, rather than dry as toads are. I'm pretty sure he's a frog.

what a lovely photograph! Maybe the autumnal light adds something to it. As David mentioned, it may well be a frog but it's a nice healthy size!

We do get thousands of Toads here in the spring / summer, and then hardly see any by Autumn. No wonder the Heron's round here look so happy .

Thank you! A very photogenic creature he was, and as you say a good size. I'm glad to say there is not much of an indigenous French population hereabouts...
