Hi there.
I should say first of all that I know nothing about butterflies however I have just been for a walk along some clifftops in the North East of Scotland and saw a butterfly which I have never seen before. Unfortunatley I did not have my camera.
It had a red body, creamish white wings with a black speckled pattern on them. Does anyone have any ideas what this may be. I suppose it could be a moth?
I've checked out various photos on moth and butterfly websites and cant yet find anything like it

Hi,
That is very similar but the body was red as opposed to orange and did not appear to have markings on its actual body. Also, the one I saw seemed to have more cream on its wings and less pattern although the pattern is very similar.

Re: Unusual butterfly?
Is it either a Scarlet tiger: http://www.ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=2195 or a Cream-Spot Tiger: http://www.ukmoths.org.uk/show.php?id=4451 ?
Cheers all,
