Small or Large?

Post by njb55rtd »

I think I know the answer but would appreciate other views. I have four different ident books but still not 100% sure. One was taken this year and one taken last year in the same area though. My guess - 1st Small, 2nd Large. Nick (Sorry about size and quality of images - not very good with cameras!)

The trouble with ident books is that it's easy to be overwhelmed by too much information. In a year or two, when you've seen lots of 'em, you'll wonder how you could have been confused. It's what birders call the sense of 'jizz'. in a nutshell, Small looks 'plain' while Large looks 'dappled'. My son used to tease me mercilessly when I confused these species!.
