Two male Common Blues ??

Post by IanCalland »

Newbie here again. Could someone confirm that these two I photographed in the Scottish highlands are a pair of common Blue males.

Many thanks

I'd say that they're a 'straight' pair. The undersides are much more similar than the upper wings, where males are blue and females brown (with a variable amount of blue sometimes!) I suspect the one on the left is male and the other female as it has less blue scales and an overall browner colour.

Mike d'Oxon is correct: male left, female to the right. Lovely large firey-red lunules on the female as well, nice capture Ian.
