Large Heath / High Brown in Cumbria

Post by John W »

Hi everyone, does anyone know when might be a good time to visit Cumbria and see the High Brown Fritillary at Arnside Knott and the Large Heath at Meathop Moss. I'm thinking maybe first or second week in July? Might even see the Mountain Ringlet too if I can drag myself up the fellside?

Cheers

Last year I saw both on the same day - 12th July. Obviously things are early this year so that needs to be considered. Cracking butterflies though, Meathop Moss is an amazing place, but watch out for horseflies on the way in! Still need the mythical Mountain Ringlet... :?

Cheers,

Gibster.

Last year we saw Large Heath, Northern Brown Argus and Mountain Ringlet on 18th and 19th June.
I didn't get High Brown Frit until 8th July.
Cheers Paul

I also saw both on the same day a few years back in early July. Arnside and Meathop.
This year I am in the Lakes 23rd to 26th June and hope for both again and MR as well.
Waiting until July may be tempting fate a bit this (unusual) year.
Cheers
