It's a male pearl-bordered fritillary.

Hi
The attached picture taken from the excellent "Similar Species" section of this website may be instructive.

I would be interested to know where this was taken.
I don't need "third bush on the left" detail,- just a rough idea.

Cheers

Hi! Jack , Iv'e noticed the PBF has two larger spots on it's 2nd row , the SPBF are all the same size, notice the two in the Picture, that's how I tell the differance. Goldie M :)

Thanks Rogerdodge. I suspected it was a Pearl-bordered but just couldn't tell if the chevrons were floating or not.
The image was taken at Eyarth Rocks reserve in North Wales on 27th April this year. I went there hoping to see these, Grizzled skippers and Dingy skippers but was unsuccessful on the skippers sadly.

A better image of a different individual.

Nice to know they're still around in north Wales.

I recall staying in a little village called Glyndyfrdwy in the early 1980s during Whitsun school holidays.

Pearl Bordered Fritillaries were all over the place, to the point where I remember opting to chase a mere Brimstone down a lane due to its comparative rarity!

Eyarth Rocks is about 6 miles North of Glyndyfrdwy.
