Slightly out of focus skipper

Post by richardh »

Hi

Whilst wandering through last years photos I came across this (rather badly focussed) picture of a skipper
IMG_6002.jpg
I have photos of large and small skippers from the same day so I hadn't really paid any attention to it previously as it wasn't a great photo - but now I've looked at it again I'm not so sure it is a large skipper. Any thoughts?

Hi Rich,

That's a Silver Spotted Skipper.

Cheers

Hi Rich,
I can see what you are thinking, but it is just the way the light is hitting the wing. It IS a Large Skipper.

Yes, Trev is right - definitely a large skipper. I can see why you thought silver-spotted, Lee, but it's an illusion!

Silver-spotted - strong spotting near the wing base.

Large - at best a weak spot near the wing base.

Ah - a Large Skipper foxes me once again

Sorry for the mis-lead Rich.
