Opinions,please

Post by marmari »

I have noticed this problem now showing on recent photos. There seems to be marks appearing on each photo. The dark mark near to the wing of the GH and two marks on the Damselfly pic.
I would be grateful if anyone could tell me the problem and cure.
thanks

Hi Marmari,

It looks like either your camera sensor or lens may need cleaning to me. This is something I need to do too - there are right and wrong ways of doing it - further advice is needed from the experts on the forum!

Cheers

Thank you very much Lee,for taking the time to give me your advice.it is most appreciated.
I have tried 2 lens and it seems the problem persists,so I have arranged to take the Nikon D80 body into my local Photo Shop tomorrow for some tender attention to the sensor.i hope that it will cure it.
Thanks again.

Sounds like a good move given this level of contamination. Simple dust spots are easy enough to remove, but nothing as extensive as the shots you've provided!

Good luck with the clean!

Cheers,

I have a rocket air blower, came with the air blower and a brush to dust off any dirt and blow the rest of with the air blower, worked well and I had worse stuff inside my camera than your photos show your camera has. Just do a search for air blower and brush on google. All you do is use the brush to dust around the camera mirrors and sensor, then lightly blow the air from the air blower and hold the camera at an angle so it may blow the dust and stuff out. If you use the air blower, once done, to do a test to see if the camera is fixed from dust, unfocus the lens on something that is one colour such as white paper and take a photo, if the photo shows no signs of dirt, it works, if not try cleaning the camera again.

Only time I had to send my camera away for something like this was when I scratched the sensor somehow and had to get it replaced.
Cheers all,

I must thank those who have given their valued advice to me on this problem.
Today I collected my camera from my local photo shop and was very happy with the result.Off at once to happily snap away.
I will definately take much more care when changing lenses in the field in future,as I had recently spent a tidy sum having the Nikon serviced.
A visit to my local pond for the first Large Red Damselflies and also a trip to a nearby Chalk Pit car park for the Grizzled Skipper and it was business as usual.

Lovely photos :D

Out of interest, who much does it cost to have a camera and lens serviced/cleaned?

Cheers

I had marks on my images even when I changed lenses - which I put down to dust on the sensor. I bought a cheap blower off ebay (search for "sensor blower") which I used to blow the dust off. Now the marks are gone. You can do this with all DSLRs - it should say in the manual how to do it.
