Grey moth ID please

I was thinking of investing in a moth trap but having spent the last hour or two failing to identify this chap who popped in and stayed last night, what will I do with twenty or more? They will be dead by the time I find their photofits in the books.
And this one must qualify as being almost the most boring looking moth.

The Genus is Epirrita, but that's as far as I'm willing to go. In Finland it would probably be E. autumnata, but I don't know the relative rarities of that, E. dilutata and E. christyi in GB.

Thank you for pointing me to the genus. According to Collins: The larger moths of Surrey, the commonest in this area would be Epirrita dilutata but both E. christyi and E. autumnata have been recorded within a mile or so.

You have to record these as Epirrita dilutata agg as its hard to tell the difference in these besides looking at the genetalia. here is a PDF from Lancashire moths that might help on identifying these similar ground: http://www.lancashiremoths.co.uk/visito ... r%2019.pdf
