November sightings

Post by jenks »

Fforrest Ganol, Tongwynlais, north of Cardiff. Spent from 13.30 to 14.30 hrs here Saturday, 13 November. This site has had up to 20 Hawfinch`s in the last 2 weeks, so I had hoped to be lucky enough to see 1. Should have known better, not one seen or heard, but 2 Red Admirals seen flying round some ivy covered Ash trees were the first butterflies seen for a week or two. Its amazing they weren`t drowned with the weather we had Wednesday to Friday.

First Purple Hairstreak eggs of the year today - two found, one of which had been parasitised. I search the tree regularly and had never found any before finding one here last winter. Either I am getting better at finding them or the butterflies are getting better at laying them...hopefully the latter.
