Two butterfly questions

Post by Dave McCormick »

Is the Dark-Veined white a subspecies of GV white or is own species?

Is the Alcon Blue and Large Blue the same butterfly or just related? They act in very similar ways.

I don't know what the "Dark-veined White" is Dave. The Black-veined White is a completely different species - if that's what you're referring to.

Similarly, the Alcon Blue and Large Blue are different species.

Aha!

Yes - different species. Although it is worth being aware that there are "lumpers" and "splitters" in the world :) "Lumpers" like to combine species, and "splitters" split them. Which is why the taxonomy of most living things changes now and again as more research is done. Real's Wood White is a case in point.

Cheers,

Yes, now I see. Thanks. Like the fruit fly perhaps? Its a hybrid of two other fly types.
