Filling the void
Re: Filling the void
Here's another species I have wanted to find since getting a DSLR - it's Helvella crispa, White Saddle. The shot is focus stacked from 4 shots, Canon 40D, Sigma 150mm macro lens, tripod mounted. F2.8, 1/13 sec, ISO 200.
Cheers

Nice work Bill. There's something other-worldly about it and little bit Gandalf
I'd imagine a lot of work went into that image.

Re: Filling the void
And those chestnuts had just landed there, out of the tree, right?
I'm not sure that's the kind of gardening we approve of.

LOL! Two heavily spiked chestnuts landed right next to a delicate mushroom completely by accident and never left a mark!padfield wrote:And those chestnuts had just landed there, out of the tree, right?I'm not sure that's the kind of gardening we approve of.

Re: Filling the void
Nice shot Grud, i remember it taking me 3 years to find a perfect one with the gleba intact.( As in, untouched by flies.) You have to rise pretty early to get there before those blighters. I think this one has had some limited attention.
Were there any at the jellyball stage for eating?
(EDIT) OMG,,, that's how innocent i am,,, only just noticed the nuts. ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Re: Filling the void
Yeah there were one or two that had not developed yet, didn't fancy eating them though. This little wood is always reliable for the Stinkhorn, they can be found in several places, you just have to follow your nose.

I doubt very much if this image will end up on Autumwatch on Thursday, despite it's doubtless quality!Zonda wrote:only just noticed the nuts.

Nice one Gary
, my local wood had 5 eggs which I've been checking back on over the last 6 weeks or so. I missed them emerge, only one egg is left now and that one is in the crook of a tree root so I can't get a nice position to separate it from the background.

Re: Filling the void
Cheers guys, glad you liked my Stinkhorn & nuts. It was a pretty cold morning, but the flies were just starting to get on them as we left.
