Two for help with ID please.

Post by dragnil »

I've had the annual trip to the French Pyrenees in September and have a pair of butterflies I'm having trouble with. I thought the brown one might be Gatekeeper (fem) but shouldn't it have spots on the rear wings? The other wouldn't show the top of the wings and I've no idea - so any help with naming them would be gratefully accepted. Thanks, David

These look like a very brown Meadow Brown, and a Great Banded Grayling to me.

Cheers
