Just returned from a lunchtime walk by the river in Cambridge, having seen my first Orange Tip of the season (male). Also saw 2 brimstones, a Holly Blue and 5 small whites/green veined whites (too far away to distinguish). What with green woodpeckers yaffling and a large shoal of chub congregating by a weir in preparation for for spawning, it was a beautiful day to be out.
The butterflying season starts here!
