Purple Emperors in Cambridgeshire

as millerd says the two woods are not far apart.... with a following wind an Emperor could easily move between them. The Emperors are sturdy beasts, unlike Wood Whites for instance, and would relish the challenge of a new territory.

And not just a new challenge. The population in Fermyn seems to have been so high over the past few years – and do bear in mind I am no expert on these matters – it could be that it has reached “capacity”. It is normal behaviour for many animals to seek out new territory when the existing territory becomes too overcrowded.

the population of Fermyn was reduced by 1 in the first week... a dog trod on an Emperor as it ( the butterfly ) was being filmed by Graeme. The dog's owner was reduced to tears when she realised what had occurred.
