Scarce, Cistus or just a Forester,

Post by Crispin »

Hi
I occasionally see these on my transect at Malling Down, Lewes and they are almost always in the same place.

Today was the first I have seen this year and managed to get a photo.
But I am still not sure if it is Cistus Forester Adscita geryon, Scarce Forester Jordanita globulariae or The Forester Adscita statices.

I hear all 3 have been recorded on the Lewes Downs (Mount Caburn during the 1990's).

Anyone have any idea which it is?

hi Crispin
i am no expert, but MOths of the Uk, differentiates between the scarce and common using the antanae, with the scarce forester having a tapered end, and also a lack of feathering on the last 3 segment of the blade on the male, not sure if that helps,
