This year first Nickerl's

Post by traplican »

Today I have snapped this-year first Nickerl's Fritillaries (I hope that the determination is correct):

Today I have visited our neighbour's meadow (only 300 m from our house) and there were tens of Nickerl's!

They're great pictures and I can certainly believe your determination. It would be nice to have an upperside to be sure, but one of the characteristics of Nickerl's is that it hates hot sun and after an initial warm-up period rarely shows the upperside at all. You will find, though, that it will open almost instantly if you cast the shadow of your hand over the nectaring butterfly, and then you can get an upperside shot.
