Re: Large Blue blog
I'm hoping to go 10th July but looking at the flight time chart I'm worried it will be too late. Has anyone on here seen them this late - what are my chances?

Re: Large Blue blog
jhanlon,
I was there yesterday and speaking to one of the wardens, you need to be there within the next 7 days to be sure of seeing Large Blue. This information is restated in the blog. I think the 10th July will be too late this year. Since 2002 the flight season for Large Blue at Collard Hill has ended between 4th and 8th July. Last year it ended on 4th July. Only in 2002 did it stretch out until 12th July but that was probably because the season started late that year. Of course the longer you leave it, the fewer there are likely to be and the tattier they will become.
Cheers,
Vince

Re: Large Blue blog
Vince, thanks. I suspected as much. Will leave it 'til next year (unless someone near me is going this weekend?) - I've seen them before but it's 1 of 2 species I've yet to photograph. It's a long way from Cambs!
